Description from the seller
Medieval seal of the Tenures of the Hospital of Cantimpret – Mons – Sainte-Waudru – 13th/14th century
Rare medieval seal in black wax depicting the arms of Sainte-Waudru in a diamond-shaped shield: a cross accompanied by three chevrons. The Gothic peripheral legend, partially legible, refers to the “tenures of the hospital of Cantimpret,” dependent on the chapter of Sainte-Waudru in Mons.
The reverse preserves an ancient handwritten identification label mentioning scholarly provenance and a bibliographic reference to the Annals of the Archaeological Circle of Mons.
There is also an ancient manuscript inventory number “105.”
Historically and sigillographically interesting object, bearing witness to the land and hospital administration of medieval Hainaut.
The wax shows wear, chips, and old cracks, consistent with the age of the piece.
A very beautiful collection piece for a seal, medieval heraldry, and the religious history of Mons.
Period: 13th–14th century
Origin: Mons, Hainaut, Belgium
Material: black wax
Condition: wear and losses visible, stabilized, with old collection annotations.
Photos are an integral part of the object’s description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any purchase.
The object will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.
