AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Art Nouveau small vase by Adrien Dalpayrat
Signed: Dalpayrat
Height: 11 cm
In good condition with light signs of wear
Country: France
Style: Art Nouveau

Adrien Dalpayrat (1844-1910) began his career as a faience painter and worked at six different factories between 1867 and 1888 before settling near Paris in 1889. There he devoted himself to stoneware, a material highly regarded among French potters at the time. Both alone and in collaboration with others, Dalpayrat produced a wide range of forms and decorations. He was so well known for his oxblood-red flambé ware that the term "Dalpayrat red" was coined to denote his distinctive glaze. This glaze, perfected in 1892, is speckled or veined with green, blue and yellow and appears on pieces in the shapes of gourds, fruit and forms derived from Japanese bottles.
