Description from the seller
Akai 4000DS - Three-Head Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck (1973-1978) - functional & tested. Servicing Needed.
Japan 1973 – 1978
The iconic and highly robust Akai 4000DS reel-to-reel tape deck from the golden era of high-fidelity audio (1970s). Manufactured in Japan, this model is widely celebrated among audiophiles as an absolute vintage workhorse. It features Akai's famous 'Three-Head' system with a One-Micron Gap Head, allowing for direct monitoring of the tape during recording (Source/Tape monitoring switch).
In neat vintage condition with normal signs of wear and age (please see the detailed photos for a precise impression). The VU meter illumination lights up nicely, creating a beautiful classic ambiance.
The recorder has been mechanically and electronically tested. All core mechanical functions (playback, fast forward, and rewind) engage and function properly. The tape heads have been cleaned.
When tested with older tapes, sound and speech are clearly audible, confirming that the audio path and electronics are fully functional. However, the playback audio is currently noisy and lacks optimal clarity. Having been stored and unused for a long period, this machine requires extra care, cleaning of internal switches/potentiometers, and general servicing (TLC) to return to its peak performance level.
Reels/spools are NOT included in this lot.
