Elegant silver serving fork for salad or fish, in Rococo with Liberty touches, European origin by G.B., dating 1850–1900, 23 cm long, 5 cm wide, 118 g, with a central inverted drop pierced motif and a back engraving, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Elegant Serving/Salad Fork in Silver – Rococo Style / Liberty Style
Splendid and elegant serving fork (ideal for salad or fish/crustaceans) finely worked, a perfect example of high silversmith craftsmanship from the late 19th / early 20th century.
The piece stands out for the complexity of its design: arched tines enclose a central inverted teardrop pierced pattern. The back of the blade is a masterpiece of engraving, decorated with volute motifs (rocaille), raised floral elements and a refined punched texture that gives depth and a beautiful play of light and shadow. The handle, rich and substantial, echoes the splendor of Rococo with Liberty touches, florid and sinuous.
Details of the Mark and Punch
Silversmith’s punch: Present on the front of the blade, enclosed in a square cartouche. Shows the initials "G.B." separated by a central symbol (likely a balance scale or a lantern, typical of French or Italian/European guarantee marks of the late '800).
Material: Silver (can be regarded as 800/legally title silver or higher, given the refined workmanship and original patina).
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The piece retains its splendid original patina that highlights the reliefs. Small structural deformation at the end of the handle (see last photo) with the tines perfectly intact. Minimal and normal signs of use consistent with age.
Note for the buyer: A piece of great charm and visual impact, ready to enrich a collection of antique silver or to be used as a centerpiece during formal and elegant dining.
Tracked shipping and professional packaging guaranteed.
