Description from the seller
Seascapes brings together, for the first time, the entire series, including a large number of previously unpublished images. For over thirty years, Sugimoto has been traveling the world to photograph seas. From light to darkness, the seascapes push beyond the edges; the surface of the sea shifts from a calm sea to delicate swirls, from matte to iridescent. The horizon gradually dissolves, creating true abstract tableaux where the sea and the sky melt into one entity.
A text by Munesuke Mita, professor of sociology at the University of Tokyo, accompanies this journey and enlightens us on Sugimoto's approach by examining contemporary art in relation to history and sociology.
