Depicted standing on an integral base, with a dwarf-like body and stout bandy legs, his arms and clenched fists on both sides of his rounded belly. With intact suspension loop on back. 5.5 cm. high. Late-Ptolemaic Period, 600-30 B.C.
The Egyptian Pataikos is a special manifestation of the creator god Ptah and the dwarf-like appearance symbolizes his magical power.
Provenance: Purchased on the Paris art market in the early 1980s. Said to be purchased from an old French collection.
