For sale is a fascinating piece of optical and military history: an antique Galileo-type military binoculars from the time around 1900, presumably from the era of the First World War.
This exceptional collectible impresses not only with its historical aura but especially with its remarkable technical construction and its excellent preservation state.
The absolute highlight of these binoculars is its extraordinary construction: it can be completely disassembled into a total of 33 mechanical individual parts. All threads, rings and mechanical connections are superbly preserved, smooth to operate, and can be easily taken apart and reassembled. An impressive testament to the precision and quality of historic instrument making.
Condition and details
• Optics: For an instrument more than a hundred years old, in exceptionally good condition. The lenses are clear, clean and free of noticeable scratches. The view is bright and free of distracting turbidity. The focus mechanism works flawlessly.
• Mechanics: All components are complete. All threads function cleanly and precisely. The binocular can be completely disassembled and reassembled.
• Case & patina: The original leather covering of the tubes has been lost over the decades. This makes the massive brass housing with its beautiful authentic aging patina stand out particularly impressively. The natural green patina gives the piece a distinctive historical character.
• Carrying strap: Original historic carrying strap, aged with signs of wear, but still connected to the binocular.
