A vintage pinewood library steps chair dating from circa 1950–1960 in a mid‑century design.
Description from the seller
Mid-Century Folding Library Steps Chair in Pine, circa 1950s–1960s
A charming and practical mid-century folding chair / library steps chair in pine wood, dating from around the 1950s or 1960s.
At first glance it presents itself as a simple wooden chair, but it cleverly folds out into a small set of steps. This makes it a wonderfully useful piece for a study, library room, kitchen or book-filled interior. It has that honest, functional mid-century character: straightforward construction, visible hinges, warm pine wood and a pleasing architectural rhythm in the angled supports.
The design has a lovely graphic quality when folded open, with triangular side structures and strong diagonal lines. As a chair, it is modest and compact; as a set of steps, it looks quite impressive. A very nice accent piece for eclectic interiors, especially in a room with books, art, ceramics or collected objects.
The pine wood has developed a warm golden tone with age, with natural variations in colour and grain. The visible signs of use give the piece character without taking away from its practical charm.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with age. The hinges and folding mechanism are present and working. Structurally solid and ready to use as a decorative and practical vintage piece.
