Description from the seller
Antique Cast Iron Umbrella and Cane Stand, circa 1900
A beautiful antique umbrella and walking stick stand in cast iron, dating from around 1900.
The stand has a richly modelled figural column, showing a standing figure in historical costume carrying the upper frame. The base is shaped as a decorative drip tray with raised edges, small paw-like feet and architectural detailing. At the top, the oval rail and three circular openings are designed to hold walking sticks or canes in place and umbrella's to either sided. It is both practical and decorative: a useful entrance-hall piece, but also an eye catching object in its own right.
The style is typical of the late 19th to early 20th century, with a historicist / Neo-Renaissance character. The standing figure, architectural base, paw-like feet and detailed ornament give it a charming old-world presence. It would look wonderful in a hallway, kitchen, boot room, classic interior or eclectic home.
Made in cast iron with a black painted finish. The piece has a lovely aged surface with light wear and patina, but is in very good antique condition and still perfectly usable.
Condition:
Very good antique condition with small signs of age and use. Minorrust and and patina to the painted surface, consistent with age. The stand is stable, practical and ready to use.
