Specimen: marine snail, scientific name S-325 CHARONIA TRITONIS; one item from Africa, year 2019, weight 834 g, authentic original, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful, very large XXL shell with light coloration Charonia tritonis - colloquial name Triton’s trumpet or giant triton, is a species of a very large sea snail, a marine mollusk from the family Charoniidae, of the tritons. It is one of the largest mollusks on a coral reef. The shell is thick and heavy, strongly coiled into the shape of an elongated tower. It ends sharply at the apex, gradually widening toward the aperture.
Strongly ribbed, with prominent spiral ribs and knobs. The shell color is most often yellowish, cream or brown with irregular, darker spots and bands. The opening (shell aperture) is large, wide, oval.
The interior is smooth, often in orange, pink or reddish-brown, contrasting with the outside of the shell. The outer lip is thick, sometimes wavy, often with delicate crenulations.
Distinctive features - due to its large size and characteristic structure it has been used in many cultures as a wind instrument (shell-trumpet).
It is valued by collectors and has significance in art and rituals. Dimensions - 135×190×360 mm. I highly recommend it to collectors and interior decorators.
