Armchair with arms in revival Renaissance style, dating to 1880–1910, crafted in solid wood with carved details and upholstered in brocade fabric in burgundy and antique gold, measuring 134 cm high, 65 cm wide and 68 cm deep, in generally good age-related condition with minor wear and possible small missing pieces.
Description from the seller
Armchair for office/library in Renaissance Revival style, richly carved, late 19th/early 20th century
Splendid period armchair, a perfect piece for a classic office, a library, or as an elegant accent chair in a living room. The furniture piece, solidly built, clearly draws inspiration from the rich and opulent style of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque.
Main Features:
Material and Craftsmanship: The frame is made of solid wood (likely walnut or oak), stained in a warm dark brown hue that enhances the grain and the deep carvings.
Carving Details: This chair stands out for the extraordinary richness of its hand-carved decorations:
The very tall backrest culminates in an imposing crest rail shaped like a stylized shell, flanked by prominent scroll volutes.
Under the seat, the front crosspiece is enriched with a central shell and leaf motif, a theme that repeats on the side skirts.
The armrests end with an elegant curled volute.
The front legs are beautifully turning and terminate in rare carved paw-like feet (or palmated feet), resting on decorated blocks.
Upholstery: The seat and backrest are generously padded and covered with a fine brocade fabric with a paisley/floral pattern in tones of burgundy and antique gold, perfect for the historic style of the furniture. The upholstery appears solid and well maintained.
Object Condition (See Photos):
The chair is in good overall period condition, evidenced by the natural and authentic patina of the wood. For full transparency, we note the following details visible in close-up photos:
Wood wear: There are surface scratches, small dents, and areas where the finish has worn away (particularly on the edges of the armrests and on the crest rail), normal for a piece of this age and use.
Stability: The wooden structure appears solid and stable, with no evident signs of failure."}
