Description from the seller

Beautiful ammonite fossil from the renowned Seghental (Sengenthal) locality in Bavaria, Germany, a classic fossil site highly regarded by collectors for producing exceptionally preserved Jurassic ammonites.

This specimen is very thick and is preserved on a portion of its original matrix. It displays outstanding ribbing and remarkable three-dimensional preservation, with sharp, well-defined ornamentation visible throughout the entire shell.

The shell has undergone a natural mineralization process over millions of years, resulting in attractive dark brown to grey tones and a subtle natural luster that enhances the fossil’s aesthetic appeal. The preservation highlights the original shell structure and growth pattern with exceptional clarity.

This specimen comes from an old collection assembled approximately 35 years ago, adding further provenance and collector interest.

Important: this ammonite is 100% natural. It has not been reconstructed, sculpted, composited, or artificially enhanced. The fossil is preserved exactly as found, with only careful preparation and cleaning carried out to reveal its natural beauty.

The historic Sengenthal quarry is no longer active, making quality ammonites from this famous German locality increasingly difficult to obtain. Most specimens available today originate from older collections and historical excavations, contributing to their growing rarity on the collector market.

An attractive and authentic specimen, ideal for collectors of ammonites, Jurassic fossils, and classic European fossil localities.

Locality: Sengenthal (Seghental), Bavaria, Germany
Provenance: Old collection (approximately 35 years old), bought to Helmut.

Seller's Story

I, Don, started fossil hunting in 1987, going from a passionate collector to a professional preparator and researcher. In all these years I have traveled searching for fossils in many parts of the world. Our fossils are present in private collections in the United States, Singapore, Taiwan, as well as in prestigious museums in the Uk, China and Japan. Quality in the preparation of the material and seriousness in managing the shipment in the best possible way distinguish us. Don
