Very beautiful and high-quality depiction of the “Anastasis” (Resurrection of Christ / Christ’s Descent into Hell). Christ stands on the broken gates of Hell and leads Adam out of the realm of the dead; below, the chained Hades.

With numerous Old Testament righteous figures as well as the saints on the sides
St. Martyr Hypatius and St. Martyr Photios – presumably the namesakes of the original commissioner.

Finely executed faces, harmonious composition and warm, classical color palette of the late 18th / early 19th century.

Original swallow-tail pins on the back.
Good, age-appropriate condition with authentic craquelure.
