Lamp - Patinated bronze - Very heavy Art Deco

Extrordinarily heavy figurative table lamp with a stylized lion figure in solid bronze or heavy bronze casting. The lamp is about 70 cm high and weighs about 21.55 kg. The design exhibits an expressive Art Deco / 1930s stylistic language with a stylized big-cat / lion figure, large paws, open jaws and a dark patina. The lamp is functional.

For sale is a very decorative and extraordinarily heavy figurative table lamp with a lion motif.

The figure is made of solid bronze or heavy bronze casting. The weight is about 21.55 kg. The overall height is about 70 cm. The execution is powerfully stylized and recalls in its form language Art Deco objects of the 1930s.

Particularly striking are the highly developed paws, the dynamic posture, the expressively opened mouth, and the dark, aged patina. Overall, the lamp appears very solid, high-quality, and decorative.

The lamp features a large opal glass globe with manufacturer/origin markings, including “Made in Czechoslovakia.” The existing old KUPP intermediate switch bears VDE/KEMA embossings as well as the year 1936. The lamp is functional. The electrical wiring/fittings/cable routing appears to have been partially renewed later; electrical safety has not been professionally tested. Before use, the lamp should be checked by an electrician.

The wooden base is present and shows age-appropriate signs of wear. The bronze shows patina, minor surface traces, abrasion, and age-related oxidation traces. A clearly legible artist signature or foundry mark has not yet been established.

Condition:
Age-appropriate condition with a nice dark patina, minor signs of use, abrasion and oxidation traces. The wooden base shows age-appropriate signs. The opal glass globe is present and bears markings. The lamp is functional. However, the electrical system has not been professionally tested.

Note:
Dating to the 1930s is supported by the stylistic classification, the old glass globe with markings, and the KUPP switch with the year 1936. The marking “Made in Czechoslovakia” refers to the opal glass. A definite artist attribution is not available.
