Pair of Art Déco silver candelabras from Argentina, each with five arms, 45 cm tall and 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
This is a pair of twin five-arm candelabras, characterized by a design that fuses the purity of geometric lines from the modern movement with the excellence of Argentine handcrafted silverware.
The Shaft and Spheres: The central structure rises from the base via a stylized, smooth conical shaft. The vertical axis is interrupted by two textured ornamental spheres (a lower one that acts as a junction knot and an upper one that crowns the axis). These spheres feature a rough or finely chiselled finish that intentionally contrasts with the mirror-polished rest of the piece.
The Arms: From the central knot emerge four tubular curved arms of circular cross-section. They extend symmetrically in a “U” shape or stylized volute, rising to the same height as the central stem to form the five light points on a single horizontal plane.
The Candlesticks and Cups: Each arm terminates in a smooth cylindrical candle cup with a flared mouth, designed to receive standard candles. The fixed plates or integrated rings are subtle and minimalist.
The Base and Markings: The set rests on a convex, smooth circular base, free of mouldings. On the outer edge of the base are two maker’s marks applied by stamping: a vertical elliptical cartridge (indicative of the metal’s purity contrast) and an upper circular punch that corresponds to the workshop or silversmith’s mark.
