Description from the seller
A brief, intensely autograph letter signed by the great composer. One page in 16°, addressed to Alphonse Royer, librettist and Director of the opera. Without a date but referenceable to December 1856, the letter mentions his direction of the rehearsals for "Il Trovatore" in Paris, for which Verdi had committed, under a contract signed on the previous September 22, to the French performance. "I do not feel well, and I do not know if I will be able to come to the rehearsal this morning. In any case I will be late... But Lauters can still study the pieces and the phrases that most need it." Splendid relic related to the preparation of the premiere of "Le Trouveur" at the Opéra (January 12, 1857), to which Verdi, compared with the Italian edition, added the ballets and made some changes to the score, particularly to the ending of the opera. Small defect in the lower white margin of the letter, otherwise perfectly preserved. Of great historical and musical interest.
P.S. Letter bought at the Bolaffi auction in 2010
