Description from the seller

Antique Russian icon of the Theotokos “Joy of All Who Sorrow” from the 19th century (circa 1880).

Hand-painted with egg tempera colors on a wooden panel with a chalk ground.

Typical method of icon production in 18th and 19th century Tsarist Russia.
The motif is widespread and very popular in the Orthodox Church.

This is an Old Believer icon.

The painting is quite masterfully and meticulously executed. Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shading. The painting contains very authentic cracking (see photos).

Minimal partial restorations are present (see photos).

Especially expressive and striking are the faces of the saints (see photos). The saints are labeled. The inscriptions are clearly legible.

Forehead ornaments are attached at the top and bottom.

The icon is in good condition with typical age-related wear (see photos).

An icon for collectors and connoisseurs of the subject.

All details are clearly legible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.

Dimensions: 32 x 26 x 3 cm
