The Herald, a 2023 single-copy edition in Excellent condition, measuring 59 cm by 36 cm, dedicated to Banksy’s Glasgow Cut & Run exhibition.
Description from the seller
The June 15, 2023 special edition of the newspaper "The Herald" is a collectible issue dedicated to Banksy's Glasgow show "Cut & Run," featuring an exclusive cover. This issue, which serves as the official announcement for the artist's first authorized exhibition in 14 years, includes exclusive interview content, generating worldwide interest among collectors.
The Glasgow Herald managed to interview the reclusive and semi-anonymous artist just as he prepares to open a new show dedicated to him at the Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art.
The show will reveal, for the first time, the stencils used to create many of the artist's most iconic works.
The scoop prompted The Herald to dedicate Thursday’s front page to a Banksy artwork depicting a rat with a boxcutter.
Director Catherine Salmond stated:
“This has been a truly special edition of The Herald, which required a great team effort, not to mention secrecy.
We’ve drawn enormous global interest, with people rushing to order copies as souvenirs of this exciting Glasgow event.”
Speaking to The Herald, Banksy said:
“I’ve kept these stencils hidden for years, aware they could be used as evidence in a vandalism charge. But that moment seems to have passed, so I’m now displaying them in a gallery as works of art. I don’t know what would be the most serious crime.”
The Stamps:
Banksy Commemoration of the Russia-Ukraine War
These stamps were issued by Ukrposhta, the Ukrainian national postal service, to commemorate the anniversary of Russia's invasion on February 24, 2022.
The stamp featuring Banksy’s work issued on February 24, 2023 for the first anniversary of the invasion is a powerful symbol of resilience and hope.
Here is the meaning in Italian of "ПТН ПНХ!" (Ptn Pnh!):
It is an abbreviation of the Ukrainian phrase "Putin pohel na khuy," which translates literally and very vulgarly to "Putin, go f*ck yourself" or "Putin, fuck off."
It is a slogan used in Ukraine to insult and challenge Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The stamp reproduces a mural by the British street artist Banksy in Borodyanka (near Kyiv), one of the cities hardest hit by the war.
The image shows a small boy in a judoka uniform throwing a man to the ground.
Meaning of the image (David against Goliath): the child represents Ukraine, a smaller and younger country; the adult represents Russia, viewed as a larger and more aggressive power.
Judo is a direct reference to the sport loved by Vladimir Putin.
The artwork symbolizes the hoped-for victory of technique, moral force, and justice (the boy) over brute force and arrogance (the adult).
In summary, the stamp celebrates Ukraine’s ability to resist and counterattack, despite the imbalance of forces on the ground.
