Description from the seller

Dogon ladders are utilitarian and symbolic instruments used by the Dogon people, mainly residing in the Bandiagara Escarpment region of Mali. These ladders, often crafted from local woods such as millet and fig tree, are known for their simple, functional design. They are used to reach the high granaries where grains and other provisions are stored, essential in an agricultural society where food security is crucial.

Beyond their practical utility, Dogon ladders carry deep cultural and ceremonial significance. They are often decorated with geometric motifs and sacred symbols, representing the Dogon's spiritual beliefs and cosmology. The ladders are used during rituals and ceremonies associated with agriculture and food security, underscoring their importance in preserving ancestral traditions and knowledge passed down from generation to generation within the Dogon community.
