The Rolykit was devised in 1973 by filmmaker Samuel Meijering. While working on a film script he was distracted by the clutter on his desk. He began thinking about a solution and started drawing. Eventually he assembled the cardboard design himself.
Together with his former classmate from the film academy, Gied Jaspers, Meijering founded the small company Golden Inventions, which sold the rights of the Rolykit for 1 million guilders to producer Van der Molen.
The Rolykit can be unrolled in one go, while the contents in all compartments of this storage box stay in place. The 'secret' of the Rolykit is that, when the storage compartments are unfolded, each compartment becomes accessible only when it lies flat on the surface.
When you roll the storage compartments back up, the bottom of one compartment becomes the lid of another.
