A wooden motorised propeller aircraft model from the 1980s–1990s with a solid wooden fuselage about 57 cm long, upper wings spanning 77 cm, a metal undercarriage with two Airtop rubber wheels and a rear swivelling wheel, weighing around 2 kg, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Very decorative wooden model airplane. The aircraft consists of a solid wooden fuselage about 57 cm long. The upper wings are also made of solid wood and have a wingspan of 77 cm. At the front the airplane has a metal undercarriage with two rubber wheels (brand Airtop 'made in France') and at the back a swiveling rubber tail wheel. The total weight is about 2 kg.
On the wing sits the code PH-05 and KLM. PH is the official code for the Netherlands, and the KLM is the Koninklijke LuchtvaartMaatschappij (Royal Dutch Airlines). The numbers 05 are fictitious, placed by the aircraft builder, because 05 is the code for a glider, and this aircraft is a powered aircraft.
This aircraft is probably a Cessna dating from the 1960s or 1970s. The model was probably made in that era (perhaps slightly later).
What exact model it is, is not clear. It could be a form of folk art, where a model maker built this model and used parts such as the AIRTOP wheels and a plastic propeller from Robbe Dynamic, a renowned German model-building company. The maker would then have been a very skilled craftsman.
It could also have been a show model for, for example, a travel agency, made on a small scale.
The aircraft still looks very decorative. The rear wing has a glued crack and at the bottom of the rear wing a thin piece of wood has broken off (see photos) and the rubber tail wheel has a tear, so it no longer sits firmly around the rim (see photo). Across the entire aircraft there are small paint chips, but overall one can speak of logical signs of use. The airplane still has all original parts and the paint finish is still completely original. It is a very decorative object!
The aircraft is being shipped carefully packed with the wing removed (three screws) and insured.
