Icon - Paraskeva - Wood

Saint Paraskeva (Saint Parascheva or Saint Viernes), one of the most venerated saints in the Russian and Balkan Orthodox tradition.
She appears alone, facing forward, with the characteristic red maphorion (veil of the holy martyrs).
She holds a scroll with an inscription in ecclesiastical Slavonic, symbolizing the preaching of the faith.
Blesses with her right hand.
Above her head you can see the Mandylion (the Holy Face of Christ), supported by two angels, a feature frequently found in some depictions of Saint Paraskeva.
Painted in egg tempera on panel with a dark background and ochre margins characteristic of provincial Russian workshops.
