AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Remarkable Art Deco uranium glass tripod vase, produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. This spectacular model, today commonly referred by English-speaking collectors as the “Rocket Vase,” perfectly illustrates the futuristic, architectural aesthetic that characterizes Czech glass from the interwar period. Its uranium green hue, coupled with its intense fluorescence under ultraviolet light, further emphasizes the bold character of its silhouette.

The vase adopts a flared coronet shape with a wavy edge, resting on three powerful geometric supports arranged in a tripod. The parison features deep vertical ribs and stepped facets that converge toward a central point, evoking the prow of a rocket or a stylized projectile. The three uprights, with angular, slender lines, rise from a trilobed terrace with dynamic contours. The whole presents a remarkable play of reliefs, edges and transparencies, magnified by the luminous green color of the glass.

The condition is excellent. The vase shows no cracks or restorations. Only a small discreet chip on the terrace and a second under the base are present, barely visible in display. Also to note, a manufacturing detail: an excess of material remained under the bottom during casting, making the underside slightly domed. The vase thus retains a slight tilt when placed, an original characteristic that testifies to the production process.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Czechoslovak glassworks occupied a central place in the renewal of European glass design. Led by designers such as Rudolf Schrötter, Heinrich Hoffmann, and the studios of Chribská, Rosice and Inwald, they developed a distinctly modern language based on geometric forms, architectural stylization, and decorative use of molded glass. This vase fully embodies this creative dynamic, where the influence of Art Deco mingles with a fascination for speed, technological progress and futuristic forms.

Dimensions are:
