Description from the seller
This is a floor lamp with a bold design (or a large table lamp), characterized by a distinctly Space Age or submarine/biomorphic style, typical of lighting production from the late '60s to the '70s. The structure is made up of overlapping modular elements in blown glass, interspersed with chrome metal details.
Analysis of the Structure and Materials
• The Upper Diffuser (Lampshade): * It is a large sphere of transparent glass or lightly satin/fumé.
• The sphere’s base tapers and connects to a wavy, double-bulb (or flanged) section. In this photo, the central part is lit by an internal red light (or with a neon/pink effect), creating a strong color contrast and a pop atmosphere.
• The Central Coupling:
• A glossy chrome metal ring acts as the junction between the upper and lower parts. It features small circular holes around the circumference, probably intended both for ventilation and heat dispersion of the bulbs, and as an aesthetic detail.
• The Lower Base:
• It is a slender white milky glass (opaline) satinized body.
• The shape is geometric and structured: an upper cylindrical section that widens downward with two prominent overlapped domed rings. This section is internally illuminated by a warm/neutral white light.
• The Supporting Base:
• The whole sits on a circular pedestal, also in glossy chrome metal.
Style and Aesthetic Context
The lamp immediately evokes Italian or European design from the '60s/'70s. The combination of sinuous geometric shapes (reminiscent of a chess pawn or a stylized marine creature), the use of opaline glass combined with chrome, and the effect of dual colored illumination are iconic elements of historic companies of the period such as Murano, Artemide, Mazzega, Martinelli Luce, or Guzzini.
Visible Technical Details:
• Power supply: There is an external light-colored/transparent cord that exits from the base to connect to the wall outlet.
• Dual Illumination: The lamp appears to be equipped with a dual lighting system (or two internal bulbs) that allows the base to be lit differently from the colored upper core.
