Description from the seller
It is an art deco-style lamp from the first half of the 20th century, and the first thing it conveys is that very particular blend of geometric solidity and restrained luxury that defined the movement. The body, worked in polished brass, is arranged in ascending volumes: a wide, stable base, a stem that narrows with elegance, and a top finial where the socket and the on/off chain add a functional nod very typical of the era. The metal, with its warm shine, does not seek to dazzle but to reflect light with dignity, as the déco pieces intended for modern urban interiors did.
The overall form resembles a stylized, almost architectural column, a typical déco trait that drew inspiration from skyscrapers, elevators, cinemas, and train stations. The vertical lines, clean and well-proportioned, convey a sense of order and modernity, while the decorative rings at the top and at the base introduce a visual rhythm that softens the metal’s bluntness. It’s a lamp that, even without a shade, maintains a sculptural presence, like a small domestic totem.
The pull chain switch, so characteristic of the first half of the 20th century, adds a charming detail: practical, direct, almost ritual. And the old wiring, still present, reinforces the piece’s authenticity, reminding us that it belongs to a era when electricity was integrated into design with a certain technological pride.
Overall, it’s a lamp that embodies the spirit of art deco: elegant, modern for its time, functional but with a clear sense of style. A piece that not only illuminates but anchors the space with its vertical presence and its golden glow.
Tracked shipping and good packaging.
