DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The submerged glass ashtray is in perfect condition. It has no scratches or cracks; it is like new.
Attributed to Alfredo Barbini (Murano, January 13, 1912 – Murano, February 13, 2007) he was in his youth a master glassmaker for the Zecchin & Martinuzzi furnace (managed between 1932 and 1934 by Francesco Zecchin and Napoleone Martinuzzi)[1]; subsequently he was chief master until 1945 at the VAMSA glassworks (Vetri Artistici Muranesi Società Anonima, later becoming artistic director of the Gino Cenedese glassworks, for which he created numerous glass statues and the so-called Aquari, i.e., “blocks of colorless glass that incorporated very colorful flora and fauna elements, previously formed.” With Cenedese he participated in the Venice Biennale of 1948[2][3].
The downturn at Cenedese led him in 1950 to found his own glassworks, run with the help of his sons Oceania and Flavio. The glassworks specialized in the processing of solid glass, submerged glass and, from the seventies, murano, and thin blown glass[2][4]. He also participated in the Venice Biennales of 1950[5], 1954, 1960, 1962 and 1968[6].
