Description from the seller
A beautiful and rare antique wall mirror in a cast and repoussé brass circular frame, dating to approximately 1890–1910.
The frame is designed in the Historicism style with strong Neoclassical influences, featuring a richly detailed relief composition of scrolling acanthus foliage, stylized volutes, raised boss medallions, and a continuous rope-twist band. The innermost border is finished with a beaded edge surrounding the original central mirror glass.
The most distinctive feature of this piece is the large integrated mount at the bottom of the frame. It is originally made to hold a pair of pivoting twin-arm candle holders or wall sconces. It is a hallmark of a high-quality late 19th-century aristocratic Swedish furnishing mirror.
The reverse shows the original black backing plate, held in place by six metal tabs, with a robust integrated hanging ring at the top. A hand-engraved inventory reference "400901 3915"
The original mirror glass is intact with no cracks or chips, and displays beautiful perimeter silvering loss and minor oxidation spots. The vision is clear and sharp with no cloudiness. Fantastic piece.
The brass frame has a deep patina. The lower bracket has a slight asymmetry at its terminal point. Minor residue from past cleaning. Overall, the piece is in good antique condition.
Diameter: 40 cm
Mirror Diameter: 19.5 cm
Height: 43 cm
Depth: 6 cm
Weight: 1213 g
