Description from the seller
French Art Deco Salon Gueridon with Drawer in solid oak – circa 1930
Elegant French Art Deco occasional table made of solid oak, dating from the period around 1920–1930.
The furniture is characterized by its refined geometric design, round tops, and gracefully curved black-painted legs, typical of the French Art Deco style. The small table features a practical drawer and a second shelf, making it both decorative and functional.
The warm dark brown oak finish contrasts beautifully with the black legs, giving the piece a stylish and timeless appearance.
A French guéridon with a drawer like this originally had several possible functions, depending on the room where it stood:
- A coffee table next to an armchair or sofa for a book, glasses, cigar box, or a drink.
- A lamp table, with a table lamp on the top surface and accessories on the intermediary shelf.
- A work or sewing table, where the drawer was used for sewing notions, writing implements, or small personal items.
- A plant stand in a drawing room or conservatory.
In French catalogs from the interwar period, such a model is often described as:
"Guéridon de salon à tiroir" (salon guéridon with drawer) or "Table d'appoint" (occasional table).
An attractive authentic French interior piece that fits perfectly within Art Deco, vintage, and eclectic interiors.
