Description from the seller
Junghans "Trilobe" Wall Clock – Mid-Century Modern / Space Age Design – Germany, c. 1960s – In excellent working condition - Fully Serviced – No reserve
A striking and highly decorative Junghans ceramic wall clock dating from the early 1960s, featuring an unmistakable triangular "trilobe" case design that perfectly captures the optimistic spirit of Mid-Century Modern and early Space Age aesthetics.
Manufactured in Germany by Junghans, one of the country's most respected clockmakers, this elegant timepiece combines sculptural form with functional precision. The distinctive red and ivory-coloured case creates a bold visual contrast, while the minimalist dial, gilt hands, and domed glass crystal reflect the clean, modernist design language that defined the period.
Behind the dial sits the original Junghans mechanical movement (calibre W281), marked "Made in Germany" and fitted with the original balance-wheel escapement system. The movement has recently been professionally serviced and runs accurately. The clock retains its original winding key.
Its unusual geometric form makes it an exceptional decorative object, equally suited to Mid-Century, Atomic Age, Space Age, or contemporary interiors. A true eye-catcher that works both as a functional clock and as a piece of vintage design sculpture.
Historical Context
During the late 1950s and 1960s, German manufacturers such as Junghans embraced the emerging Space Age aesthetic, introducing increasingly daring forms and colours into domestic design. This triangular model is a wonderful example of that transition from traditional clockmaking to modern industrial design, reflecting the era's fascination with futuristic shapes and streamlined simplicity.
