Antique mirror buffet

An antique mirror buffet probably dating from the latter half of the 19th century. The piece is made of dark hardwood, presumably mahogany, with beautifully figured veneer on the drawer fronts and cabinet doors.

The crown is richly worked with openwork carving of leaf motifs, scrollwork and floral knobs. The upper cabinet has two original mirrors in formed frames; the upper one shows the characteristic light reading pattern that suits mirrors of that age. Between them sits an elegant display shelf on a carved scroll support. The whole is flanked by turned columns that run down to the turned ball feet.

The lower section has a wavy serpentine front with a wide drawer and a two-door cabinet with formed decorative panels and an interior compartment. The interior is functional and in neat condition.
This piece has always had a fixed place in the parental home and has been carefully kept within the family.
