Antique French solid silver châtelaine from the late 19th century, featuring two movable blue glass medallions on four flexible chains, a secure screw‑fit closure with a boar hallmark, a guilloché cylindrical end piece and an untested critérium element sold as part of the item; total length about 33 cm, weight about 57.6 g, in very good condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Old chatelaine in solid silver, French work from the late 19th century, adorned with two substantial blue glass sliding medallions mounted on four flexible chains.
The two oval elements can move freely along the chains, offering a presentation that is particularly original and decorative. The ends feature a floral relief pattern. The closure system is an antique screw clasp, visible in the photographs, ensuring a particularly secure closure when properly screwed.
At the far end hangs a tubular-shaped accessory, richly guilloché. An additional metallic element protrudes, evoking an old pencil-style lead holder, with no guarantee of functionality. This element is sold as is as an integral part of the object.
Boar’s head hallmark visible on the closure, confirming French solid silver.
Beautiful old patina preserved.
Dimensions:
• Total length: about 33 cm
• Overall width of the four chains: about 1 cm
• Blue medallions: about 2.5 x 2 cm
• Thickness of the medallions: about 1 cm
Total weight: about 57.6 g
Good overall condition for its era. Wear and light signs of use consistent with age. The terminal mechanism of the critérium type has not been tested and its operation is not guaranteed.
An unusual chatelaine, representative of French jewelry making of the late 19th century, combining solid silver, blue glass, and an original screw closure system.
