Masque Chokwe Mwana pwo, carved from wood, originates from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, from the Chokwe people, with private collection provenance, measurements 30 cm high, 18 cm wide, 29 cm deep, weight 1080 g, in good condition and sold without a stand.
Description from the seller
For a deeper understanding of this mask, detailed explanations can be found in Manuel Jordan's manual "Masks in Congo," as well as in the Musée Tervuren's work titled "Masterpieces from Central Africa" and François Neyt's "Fleuve Congo." It comes from the DR Congo.
The Chokwe are a Bantu-speaking population of Central and Southern Africa, mainly found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola, and to a lesser extent in Zambia. A few thousand also live in Namibia.
This dance and initiation mask is in good condition (see photo). The materials used are wood, natural pigment, and feathers.
