Torino'90 is a signed hardback photography book by William Klein, 176 pages, published by Federico Motta Editore (Milan) in 1990 in Italian for the first edition, with dust jacket, measuring 35 x 25 cm, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Rarest exceptionally signed copy by William Klein on the title page and in perfect condition. 176 pages and about 75 black-and-white photographs printed on double-page spreads in a large format (48 x 34 cm). Publisher's black cloth binding with title embossed in white on the spine, front free endpaper also with double-page photographs and an illustrated dust jacket. In excellent condition.
Immersed in the crowd of spectators, elbow to elbow with people who bunch together in stadiums or in the streets, William Klein has managed to give us these striking images while ensuring their perfect composition. His frontal position relative to the subject, appearing clearly with the camera in hand, creates a special relationship between the photographer and the photographed subject, which sometimes assumes a posing stance in front of the lens but most often remains perfectly natural. The resulting images are the product and trace of a collective representation of which the photographer was at once the witness and one of the protagonists (according to Giovanni Chiaramonte’s text). Texts in Italian by Guy Mandery and Giovanni Chiaramonte.
William Klein oversaw the selection of the photographs and the layout in extremely short time just after the event, and the work was printed in October 1990 while the tournament was taking place in July–August.
The start of this championship was marked by a notable event because the defending champions, Argentina, played the opening match of this edition 1990 with Maradona at the forefront against Cameroon, and the competition yielded a first surprise with the Cameroonians’ victory. Cameroon even became the first African nation to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (like new), kept with the utmost care. Very efficient protected shipping and guaranteed international trackable mail. In case of multiple purchases, grouped shipping is possible with reimbursement of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
