It bears the mark of Alphonse Debain, a prestigious Parisian goldsmith who was active between 1883 and 1911. He was an internationally recognized artisan, winning a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889. His pieces, often in styles such as Empire or Art Nouveau, are highly valued today by collectors.

The frame features a very refined repoussé decoration with floral motifs, characteristic elements of the decorative style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This type of mesh silver purses were fashionable accessories very popular among the bourgeoisie and European elite from the late 19th century through the 1920s and 1930s.
