Description from the seller
« Le Glyphoscope » – ancient stereoscopic camera – circa 1905-1925 Jules Richard Paris – Description Rare ancient stereoscopic camera « Le Glyphoscope » made by Jules Richard in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. The Glyphoscope is an emblematic device of French stereoscopic photography. Designed both as a shooting camera and a viewer, it allowed the creation and observation of relief images according to the stereoscopic process, very popular during the Belle Époque and the interwar period. The proposed model presents a beautiful original patina and retains its essential features:
• double frontal lens
• upper viewfinder
• black metal construction
• mechanical controls present
• original markings visible.
The camera is sold in its discovery state, not tested with plates. The mechanisms seem complete visually but no guarantee of operation is given considering the object's age.
Beautiful collectible item for an enthusiast of antique photography, stereoscopic devices, or Jules Richard equipment.
Condition
Old condition with normal signs of use and storage:
• surface wear
• occasional oxidation
• dust and patina consistent with age
• absence of aggressive cleaning to preserve authenticity.
Please carefully examine the photographs which are an integral part of the description.
History
The Jules Richard company, founded in Paris at the end of the 19th century, is famous for its stereoscopic devices « Vérascope » and « Glyphoscope », today sought after by collectors of early photography and optics.
The Glyphoscope is one of the most representative French devices of the democratization of relief photography in the early 20th century.
