Antique Neoclassical/Empire wooden frame carved and gilt with gold leaf, Italy, dating to the late 18th/early 19th century.
Description from the seller
Elegant Neoclassical / Empire wooden carved and gilded frame - Italy, late 18th / early 19th century
Splendid and elegant rectangular period Neoclassical / Empire frame, dating to the late eighteenth century or the very early decades of the nineteenth century (circa 1795–1815), of refined Italian artisanal craftsmanship. The structure is entirely made of solid wood finely hand-carved, characterized by an inverted-groove profile that hosts a superb and dense continuous decorative motif of palmettes (stylized leaves), typical of the strict geometric and elegant taste of the Napoleonic period. The surface finish presents a splendid antique gold leaf gilding, laid on the classic bole bed. The gilding preserves a magnificent original warm patina, enriched by slight and fascinating signs of time and by natural and light oxidation that enhance its authenticity and historic character.
This antique piece is perfectly suitable both for enhancing important old paintings or art prints, and for being converted into an exclusive wall-mounted decorative mirror for high-end interiors.
