Original Thonet chair from the period 1850–1900, Model No. 20 (Omega or Heart), made of steam-bent beech, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Splendid and rare original antique Thonet chair, Model No. 20 (also known as the "Omega" or "Heart" model), produced between the late 19th century and the early 20th century.
An iconic piece of design history in steamed beech, perfect for collectors or as a unique furnishing piece in modern or classic interiors.
The authenticity and age of the piece are attested by unmistakable structural details (visible in the attached photos):
Original Vienna straw seat, pass-through weave: Traditional craftsmanship carried out entirely by hand, thread by thread (weave passing under the frame, not industrially pressed). The straw is intact, solid, well‑taut, and with a beautiful natural patina.
Era hardware: Structural joints tightened with single-slot screws forged in the period (antecedents to the invention of Phillips screws). The iron shows its natural historical oxidation.
Condition: Excellent structural condition. The wood is solid, free from cracks and displays the fascinating patina of time that guarantees authenticity (the paper labels of the era have been lost over time due to cleaning, as happens with most well-used pieces).
