Italy origin; Art Deco rectangular tablecloth in pure linen with Cantù lace border, measuring 155 × 245 cm, dating to the 1950s–1960s and in excellent vintage condition.
Description from the seller
Splendid rectangular antique tablecloth (mid-20th century cutlery/household linen set), entirely made of pure high-quality linen fabric, characterized by a robust and solid weave.
The peculiarity of this lot lies in the extraordinary visual impact of the lace: it features a majestic central rectangular inset framed (a large framed insert) and a substantial perimeter border in Cantù Lace (bobbin/lace weaving).
Close-up details show the typical work with broad fluid scrolls (the classic bisette in linen stitch) that create sinuous fan motifs and geometric rosettes, connected by thin and very precise four-strand braids. This is a fine bobbin lace manufacture from the Lombard school, highly sought after by collectors. The joining of the lace to the linen fabric is machine-sewn, ensuring excellent solidity and durability over time.
Material: 100% Pure Linen fabric; lace thread in natural cotton/linen.
Color: Natural white / very light ecru.
Dimensions: 155 x 245 cm (ideal for a table of 8-10 people).
Lotto conditions:
In excellent vintage/antique condition. The linen fabric is extremely solid, healthy and free of structural wear. The bobbin lace is perfectly preserved, solid and with threads well taut. A magnificent and natural color variation slightly darker (cord/beige tone) is noticeable on the edge thread of the lace (cord): a typical detail of natural fibers of this period that enhances its charm and authenticity. No notable stains or damages to report.
Please study the close-up photographs carefully to appreciate the incredible precision of the lace motifs and the quality of the thread.
