Antique walnut Isabeline frame with carved moulding, made in the United Kingdom, external dimensions 70 × 50 × 10 cm with an internal opening of 60 × 40 cm, dating to 1900–1910, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
This antique mirror, with its Isabeline molding carved in walnut, belongs to that transitional moment between the late 19th century and the early years of the 20th, when Spanish cabinetmaking reclaim the sober elegance of Romanticism while still preserving certain echoes of 19th-century classicism. The wood, a dark, deep walnut, shows a rich, almost silky grain that provides immediate warmth and a noble presence even in the absence of the glass.
The molding presents that characteristic profile of Isabeline taste: firm lines, balanced proportions, a slight bulge on the front, and a play of planes that creates soft shadows and a discreet but refined visual rhythm. It is not an exuberant frame, but one that leans toward restrained distinction, toward the beauty of the material and the precision of workmanship. You can sense the artisan's hand in the clean joints, in the transition between moldings, and in the way light slides along the edges.
Although it currently appears without a mirror, the structure retains all its dignity: it is an object that speaks of bourgeois interiors, dressing tables and halls, of houses where wood was central and decoration sought balance rather than ostentation. Its present condition invites imagining it either restored and functional or converted into an autonomous decorative piece, a fragment of domestic history that continues to possess aesthetic force.
