Yahyahli - Carpet - 252 cm - 132 cm

Turkish prayer rug (seccade), traditionally hand-knotted in the Central Anatolia region, with typical features of Yahyali craftsmanship or from nearby areas such as Konya or Niğde, characterized by a stylized stepped mihrab niche on a crimson red background, symbolically reproducing the mosque niche facing Mecca. Within the central field a vertical geometric axis unfolds decorated with candlestick motifs, water jugs or small floral and tribal medallions stylized. The border is enclosed by wide contrasting geometric borders in dark blue, ochre yellow and earth tones, enriched by rosettes and eight-pointed stars typical of the Anatolian geometric repertoire. Knotted entirely in wool on wool with hues historically derived from plant and mineral pigments. It shows a worn fringe on the lower side, a detail that confirms its vintage or semi-antique character. Measurements 252x132 cm.
