Description from the seller
Aubusson is the name of a city in the heart of France from which the eponymous productions take their name. The production of these carpets began already in the 14th century thanks to Flemish masters who, migrating to this area, taught the local artisans this kind of art. Over the centuries, Aubusson tapestries have enjoyed great success, reaching the main royal castles of all France and beyond. Currently, Aubusson production in France is greatly reduced, and most Aubusson carpets on the market today are handmade in China. There are two types of carpets called Aubusson, the original Aubusson and the Aubusson Needlepoint; in the first case we are talking about carpets woven with the classic Aubusson technique, in Aubusson Needlepoint carpets the half-stitch technique is used instead, which is faster to produce and thus used on cheaper carpets. The motifs are similar in both variants, although Aubusson, unlike Aubusson Needlepoint, tends to have sharper and more detailed designs.
Tappeto Aubusson a piccolo punto.
It unites two sections (central seam) with a wool-on-cotton embroidery.
The numerous images show the details better than words. I therefore invite you to look at them carefully to verify the condition of the item and avoid any misunderstanding. Thank you
Decorated with bouquets surrounded by garlands of flowers on a beige background. Splendid three-dimensional floral border on a earth-toned background.
