AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Circa 1880, 19x26 cm.
"Camel Driver", a very beautiful portrait of a camel herder and his camel from the late nineteenth century (Algeria), attributed to one of the photographers active in North Africa at that time.
A very fine vintage albumen print in very good condition, mounted on a cardboard backing.
Very good preservation of contrasts, gray tones and levels of detail.

At the end of the 19th century, J. Garrigues, Alexandre Leroux, A. Bougault, E. Frechon, P. Sebah, C and G Zangaki, and Jean Geiser were among the photographers active in North Africa and the Middle East, between Tunis, Algiers and Cairo. Their images—portraits, street scenes, views of monuments, landscapes, female figures or local “types”—testify to both documentary work and an Orientalist gaze characteristic of their era.

It will be shipped with its pouch and its cardboard support on neutral pH (ideal for a collection in good condition).
