C&G Zangaki (XIX) - Moucharabieh

"Moucharabieh", a very beautiful portrait from the late nineteenth century by the Zangaki brothers.
Very fine albumen print, large format and period, in very good condition, mounted on a cardboard backing.
Excellent preservation of contrasts, gray tones, and levels of detail.

The Zangaki brothers (Georges and Constantin Zangaki) were Greek-origin photographers active in Egypt in the last decades of the 19th century, mainly between the 1870s and 1890s. They worked primarily in the regions of the Suez Canal, the Nile, and the great archaeological sites frequented by European travelers. Their work fits into the context of the development of tourism in Egypt after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869.
