Description from the seller

Massive wall-mounted coat rack for the entrance in solid wood and brass – Umbertine style / early 20th century

Exclusive and imposing wall coat rack (or entrance panel boiserie), superb testimony of Italian cabinetry at the end of the 19th century / beginning of the 20th century (full Umbertine period or early 20th century).

This refined piece of furniture is entirely crafted in high-quality solid wood (presumably stained walnut or chestnut), characterized by a warm, deep dark tone that highlights the wood's natural grain.

The structure features a classical and rigorous architectural line:

At the top rises a substantial molded cap frame, typical of noble furniture of the era.

Immediately below is a practical hat-rack or coat-hat shelf, supported laterally by two robust curved tubular supports in solid brass.

The central body is divided into elegant geometric paneling with raised, repeating patterns, framed by geometric relief profiles.

The base rests on a protruding wooden plinth, solid and well squared.

Hardware details

The coat rack is equipped with 5 majestic double coat hooks (with a longer upper hook and a lower ring for umbrellas or bags) cast/brushed brass with a highly antique charm. The hardware bears a beautiful patina of age.

Condition

The item presents good structural and overall conservation condition, solid and ready to be hung. Being an authentic antique piece, it shows the normal and fascinating signs of time that testify to its history:
On the left side profile of the wood there are some superficial abrasions and traces of white paint/plaster (easily removable with light restoration or cleaning).

The top shelf surface and the base show a natural patina from use and antique dust.

Some mounting screws for the brass hooks have been partially replaced over time for maintenance (as visible in the detail photos, some hooks have newer star-head screws and others have period slotted screws).

A piece of great character, perfect for enhancing entrances of historic residences and farmhouses, as well as as a contrasting element in modern loft settings with industrial or eclectic design.
