Hackney Flowers is a hardback 1st edition in English, signed on the title page by Stephen Gill, in excellent condition, 114 pages, 29.5 × 22.5 cm, published by Nobody, Archive of Modern Conflict in 2007.
Description from the seller
An exceptionally signed specimen on the title page by Stephen Gill (born 1971) in excellent condition; like new (signed copies are extremely rare, especially in such excellent condition!). 114 pages and 65 full-page photographs printed on the recto only in the book itself, and in a smaller format on recto-verso sheets inserted within the book; a very beautiful binding with a decorative toiled motif.
To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, with the option to return to the standard display at any time.
This is a very beautiful “collector” book published in a limited edition, today highly sought after, by one of the best English photographers of the new generation who emerged in the 2000s, and whose previous book Hackney Wick (2005) is listed in Photobook by Parr/Badger, volume II, p. 324.
Hackney is a district on the north bank of the Thames and one of the poorest neighborhoods in London, where 35 to 40% of residents live below the poverty line. Nevertheless, Stephen Gill chose to present a joyful, colorful image that highlights the people. He collected flowers, seeds, berries, and objects, arranged them on his own photographs to re-photograph them and thus produce new ephemeral and very poetic visual creations. A parallel series made of small leaflets or booklets inserted into the book’s assembly highlights the neighborhood residents wearing floral motifs on their clothing.
“This is a warm, poetic book that is visually captivating, containing images that convey an overwhelming sense of color, emotion, and rhythm drawn from a single London borough.” (publisher’s note)
From my personal collection, in excellent condition (like new), kept with the utmost care. Very effective protected shipping and international tracking guaranteed. For multiple purchases, grouped shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
