Pair of late 19th‑century Reed & Barton fruit spoons in .925 sterling silver, with shell bowls and ornate handles, each 15.5 cm long, 3.5 cm bowl, total weight 82 g, USA origin.
Description from the seller
This is a beautiful pair of serving spoons (berry spoons or sugar spoons), characterized by their shell-shaped bowls and richly decorated handles.
1. Origin and Makers
The pieces, though forming an aesthetic pair, were produced by two of the most prestigious silver manufacturers in the United States:
2. Contrast and Material
• Material: Both pieces are silverplated.
• Condition: The natural dark patina on the reliefs enhances the chiseling work, typical of high-quality pieces from the period.
3. Century and Style
• Century: Late 19th Century (c. 1880–1895).
• Style: Neo-Rococo / Late Victorian.
• The Reed & Barton piece seems to belong to or be inspired by the famous pattern "Les Six Fleurs" or similar, with a focus on naturalistic elements (flowers and fruit).
• Curiosity: It was common in the late 19th century to collect pieces in different patterns that followed a common theme (in this case, the oak/acorn and scallop shell) to compose eclectic tables.
Spoon length: 15.5 cm
Bowl: 3.5 cm
Weight: 82 g
Shipping and customs costs will be borne by the purchaser.
No shipping to the USA.
