The origin of the name is Greek; pyrite derives from

L’origine del nome è greca, pirite deriva infatti da “pyr”, il cui significato è fuoco.
In passato, per via del suo colore, era anche conosciuta come “oro degli stolti”. 

Si tratta di un minerale decisamente comune, formato da disolfuro di ferro e di colore dorato o tendente al giallo chiaro.
