Paris, a first edition large-format hardcover published by teNeues, signed on the title page by Elliott Erwitt, with about 150 black-and-white photographs across 178 pages and captions in English, German, Italian, French and Spanish.
Description from the seller
Copy of the original oversized edition, exceptionally signed on the title page by Elliot Erwitt (1928 – 2023), unique and untouchable on the internet as a signed copy. Do not confuse with later paperback or medium-format reissues that followed the publication of this original edition. 178 pages and about 150 black-and-white photographs printed full bleed and, for some, double-page spreads, captions of the photographs at the end of the book with miniature reproductions, text in English, German, Italian, French and Spanish by Adam Gopnik, solid illustrated publisher’s binding on the cover and spine and an illustrated dust jacket identical in design. In excellent condition, practically like new.
'Yes, Paris will always be Paris and who better than the inimitable Elliot Erwitt to immortalize its spirit? With his unique eye to capture reality, Erwitt sees beyond tourist clichés. This master of photography reveals as much the power emanating from the monuments as the scenes of daily life. Alternating intimate details and wide views, Erwitt captures the very essence of this metropolis.' (editor's note).
Son of Russian immigrants, Elliott Erwitt was born in 1928 in Paris and grew up in Italy and France, before his family emigrated to the United States in 1939. Elliott Erwitt attended high school while working in a commercial photographic laboratory where he developed prints. In 1949, he returned to Europe where he traveled and began his professional career. In 1953, Elliott Erwitt, sponsored by Robert Capa, became a member of Magnum Photos. He worked for Life magazine and participated in the famous The Family of Man exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 1955, and for more than fifty years, his books, photographic reports, illustrations and advertisements have appeared in publications around the world. Where his exhibitions have also enjoyed great success.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition, practically like new, kept with the utmost care. Very effectively protected shipping and international tracking guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of group shipment with refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
