Description from the seller
Elegant French liquor decanter made of crystal cut and 950/1000 silver, France, late 19th century.
Magnificent piece of French goldsmithing and artistic crystal, crafted in fine hand-engraved crystal with floral and spiraled decoration, accompanied by an extraordinary mounting in solid silver in a late Art Nouveau / Napoleon III style.
The silver mount features refined chasing work with vegetal motifs, volutes and embossed floral decoration, typical of high French silverware from the late 19th century. The handle presents an elegant sculptural form with rich ornamental detail.
The piece retains original French hallmarks:
- Minerva head,
- indicating 950/1000 silver,
- as well as additional marks of the French master silversmith.
The blown and cut crystal retains excellent clarity and a deeply hand-worked decoration.
A decorative and functional piece originally intended to serve wine, liqueur, or water at aristocratic and bourgeois tables of the French Belle Époque.
Total weight: 496 grams.
Measurements:
Height: 23.5 cm.
Length: 10 cm.
Width: 8 cm.
Condition: very good for its age, with slight signs of use and wear commensurate with the period.
