Description from the seller
The artworks from my Portico Collection are inspired by characteristic architectural elements of Palazzo Corsini, an ancient Palazzo with beautiful gardens in the centre of Florence. Every year this site hosts the fine craft exhibition Artigianato & Palazzo. For its 30th edition in September 2024, I created 3 tapestries: Portico I, II and III. The contours of these works refer to the portico of the Palazzo, in the shape of three arches. The interior of the work reflects the architectural composition of the Gardens, here and there half-hidden by the fringes, as if it were an abstract view.
Fiber art, soft artworks with felt backing, 150 x 75 cm plus fringes. Made with tufting, weaving, embroidery, punchneedle, crochet and passementerie. Wool, merino wool, cotton, mixed yarns, felt. The Portici collection was exhibited at the exhibition ‘ 30 al Cubo’, Artigianato e Palazzo 2024.
In her atelier Taftique in Florence, Dutch artist Jules Vissers translates an old tradition into modern artworks. Here she designs and creates hand-tufted and embroidered tapestries using high-quality Italian yarns. She graduated cum laude in Art Textiles at the Florence Art Academy and won the European Textile and Craft Award 2024 of the European Textile Academy in Bolzano, Italy for her work. She participates regularly in art and design events such as Milan Design Week, Dutch Design Week and Florence Biennale. She is a member of Homo Faber, a guide to European excellence in craftsmanship and sells her work also online with Artemest. Her art pays homage to nature using only natural yarns and those derived from recycled fibers /and local deadstock.
